Parenting in a pandemic

35: Parenting in a Pandemic: What Your Kids REALLY Need From You Right Now w/Alison Wine

Have you wondered how to comfort your kids and teens during this COVID-19 pandemic? We are all navigating this together for the first time, and it can be hard to know what to say.

In this episode, I’ve sought out some advice on how to help our kids directly from the source. I’ve turned my podcast mic over to my oldest daughter Alison – a rising senior in social work at Belmont University – who is currently at home with us.

Alison’s dream is to work as an advocate in the legal system for women who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault.  Ali’s background and training is in family systems and processing emotions so she is the perfect fit for today’s episode.

Listen in to Alison’s insights for how parents can help their children process the emotions triggered by this time of crisis.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • How your kids will exhibit their grief
  • The importance of social connection to outside peers
  • Why a daily routine is critical for your kids
  • The best thing you can do to comfort your kids
  • What your kids DON’T need from you right now
As Alison explained, this time has been difficult for each of us for varied reasons. However, if you take the time to communicate with one another lovingly, it can be an opportunity to strengthen your relationship and grow together.

I loved having Alison as a special guest on the show today! I hope you did too! Be sure to reach out to her and say hello.  I know she would love to hear from you.

See you all here next week.

XO,
Amy
