38: Health and Happiness: How Improving Your Health Can Improve Your Marriage with Dr. Bhavesh Patel

Have you ever wondered how your physical health can impact your relationship?

I often do counseling sessions with couples where I refer them to see their medical practitioner for underlying health issues that can impact mood and energy levels. By improving their wellness, they often regain the motivation and energy to improve their marriage as well.

That’s why I am excited to hear from my guest on this episode – Dr. Bhavesh Patel.

Dr. Patel is an expert in age management, functional medicine and men’s health. He is a board-certified physician who has been in clinical practice for over 18 years. He currently resides with his family in the Chicago area where he founded the Chicago Cenegenics practice.

In today’s episode, Dr. Patel explains some common issues he treats in his practice that could potentially be affecting YOUR health and relationship.

On Today’s Episode, You’ll Discover:

  • What functional medicine and optimal wellness are
  • Why functional medicine is a great support to marriage counseling
  • How hormone management can support your relationship
  • How a man can potentially decrease his mortality risk by 50%
  • Why entrepreneurs are commonly suffering from low testosterone
  • What bioidentical hormones are
  • How cortisol levels impact your health and energy
  • How a lifestyle change can strengthen your marriage

As we heard from Dr. Patel, it’s a worthy endeavor to improve your marriage. When you do, it’s important to address any health issues that may be the underlying cause for your marital struggles. If you make the effort to improve your health, then it will also improve your relationship with your spouse. It’s truly a win/win for everyone.

Quotes:

“All these date nights and stuff are great ideas, but sometimes they’re sort of forced. But, when you make an actual lifestyle change and you’re doing this lifestyle journey together, it can be very powerful.”    -Dr. Bhavesh Patel

“Men with the lowest levels of testosterone have the highest all causal mortality. They have a higher incidence of prostate cancer. When they supplement with testosterone, the mortality goes down.”  -Dr. Bhavesh Patel

“Menopause can start early and it can be twelve years of hormones that are off, maybe even longer, where the hormones are starting to get unbalanced and the women aren’t quite feeling themselves anymore.”   -Dr. Bhavesh Patel
