The Six Rules of Conflict That Your Marriage Therapist Wishes You Knew

42: Vulnerability: Why It’s Important in Business and Relationships

“Vulnerability” is a buzz word that you hear fairly commonly these days. So, why is it so important in building a business or nurturing a relationship? It can add a level of depth and connection that is difficult to reach without being vulnerable.

For example, when I did my first BETA group for my marriage course called Spark: Reignite Your Marriage, I made one small reference to something personal about myself. Because of that, I received many negative comments telling me that information was irrelevant. My first reaction was that I should take that bit out – but when I did, I had a harder time connecting with people in the next round of the course. The small glimpse into my personal life had allowed a connection between us.

Tune in to the latest episode of the Marriage on Fire podcast where I share this experience and chat with a friend and business coach Lianne Kim about why vulnerability has been essential in her business.

On Today’s Episode, You’ll Discover:

  • Why vulnerability is important for being a leader
  • The question I was taught to ask during counseling
  • Reasons why people hold back from vulnerability
  • How to share from a place of service instead of oversharing
  • The disconnection that comes from avoiding vulnerability
  • The value of attracting and repelling people in content creation
  • My rule of thumb for vulnerable conversations – especially with your spouse

I hope that our discussion shows you that putting your authentic self out there can be a rewarding and enriching way to improve your connection with others.

See you next week!

XO,
Amy
